Tata Motors has got over 6,000 bookings for the upgraded SUV Safari Storme as Indian consumers continue to prefer utility vehicles over cars. Tatas launched the Safari Storme in October with a starting price of Rs 9.95 lakhs.The company has been aggressive in marketing the product both offline and online. SUV sales in India shot up by 59% to over four lakh vehicles during April to December, according to industry lobby society of indian automobile manufacturers (SIAM). This is in contrast to the flat sales of cars and 4.57% growth for all vehicle sales in the country. "This comes with the new VariCor engine, offering better refinement. We have got over 6,000 bookings (since its launch)," Tata Motors Head (Utility Vehicle Product Group) Ashesh Dhar was quoted as saying in Chennai. One in six customers for Tata's SUV products such as Sumo, Safari and crossover Aria. "Sumo Gold has been very well received (in the market). It has surpassed sales of double its volumes since its launch", he said.
