The country's largest car-maker Maruti Suzuki India on Wednesday launched the new version of its premium hatchback 'Swift' at an introductory price ranging from Rs 4.22 lakh to Rs 6.38 lakh.

Built on an all-new platform, the company and its suppliers have invested over Rs 500 crore on the new car.

"We have launched the new Swift at a time when there was a significant demand for the outgoing model. I am confident that the new Swift will create new benchmarks with its improved fuel efficiency, stylish and sportier looks and high performance," Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director and CEO Shinzo Nakanishi told reporters here.

Launched six years back, the Swift has been a runaway success for the company, with over six lakh units sold so far. MSI is hoping that the new version will further strengthen its position.

The new Swift is available in both petrol and diesel options. The petrol variant is powered by a 1.2-litre K series engine, while the diesel version has a 1.3-litre engine.

Maruti Swift comes in the most popular and best selling cars because of its good mileage and pick up. The Maruti Swift petrol version car offers mileage of 18.6 kmpl while Maruti Swift diesel will offer mileage of 22.9 kmpl.

The interiors of Maruti Swift are truly soothing and beautiful. The dashboard houses the instrument cluster, the glove box and central console, with slots for the music system, Air conditioner controls, and so on. The centrally-located instrumentation display includes a tachometer, speedometer and digital odometer, as well as a clearly visible digital clock. The climate control system has an easily-operable large circular dial.

The Maruti Swift has a highly crash- resistant shell that protects you from all sorts of mishaps. Other safety features include the collapsible steering column, seat belts with safety enhancing pre tensioners and impact absorbing interiors and exteriors. The front portion comes well equipped with dual SRS Airbags that protect in case of a head on collision. Moreover the ABS (Anti lock braking mechanism) with EBD (Electronic brake force distribution) helps secure rest of the job.
