depends, after a long drive, i do make it a point to idle the engine for some time, turbo charged engines should be idled before shutting them off, more importantly petrol engines

Yes, For my skyline since its petrol turbo charged and I do push it to limits sometimes. I do idle it for 1-2 minutes.

Is it similar for diesel engines. ?I've read some turbos blown

    Haha that happened with me
IT was funny. I went to temple , we took Skyline and Chaser,
both had turbo timers on them and when we left the car both the cars were on and we walked into Temple. That Indian dude kept staring at us and then when the cars turned off he was embarrassed :p

It is a very good for you if you have your own car but there are few many problems that many people may have to face with their car. Also you should take care of your car.
