Maruti cars to cost more

Maruti Suzuki on Thursday announced that its cars will cost more from next week due to a hike in commodity input prices and the weakening of the rupee.

"We will be hiking the prices of our cars by next week as there has been a surge in the commodity input prices and due to the depreciation of the rupee," Mayank Pareek, managing executive officer (Marketing and Sales) of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, told IANS on the sidelines of the 11th Auto Expo here.

"I can't comment on how much the hike will be as we are still working on it," he added.

Offering 14 different car models ranging from hatchbacks to sports utility vehicles, the company has been going through a rough patch due to a recent strike in its Manesar, Haryana plant and constantly declining sales.

"We lost a hundred thousand vehicles due to the strike but thankfully it's over now," said Pareek adding that the company would ramp up its production from the current 1.5 million units to 1.8 million units annually soon.

Dhillon I also got this news that there will be price hike in the new cars of Maruti but I don't think so that weakening of the rupee is the main point here.

And hm is also increasing the prices

Maruti India has at last raised the prices of its cars in India. However, the Indian car maker has waited for over a fortnight for the sales to improve and recoup the loss due to lack of promising sales in December 2011. But, at last it had to increase the prices of Maruti cars. As per sources, there has been an increase ranging from 0.3 percent to 3.4 percent in the Maruti car prices. Other car makers such as Hyundai and Mahindra have also increased the prices of their cars in India in January.

Yes the percentage ranges from 0.3% to 3.4% across different models. It has been effected since 16 January, 2012.

The company had stated that it would hike the prices of its models to offset the impact of rising input costs and foreign exchange fluctuation.

Maruti sells a variety of model ranging from the M800 which starts at a price of Rs1.97 lakh to the top end Kizashi that comes at a tag of Rs17.5 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
