launch control is used in sequential or semi-auto/automatic transmission to get that off-the-line effect you get from manual transmission, if you have ever driven an auto or a semi auto transmission equipped vehicle you will realise that it takes some time for the car to get going...because the transmission is basically slipping the clutch to avoid wheelspin while accelerating from standstill, however when you are in a sportscar on a track, you want to get going as fast as possible, and this is what launch control does, its an electronic aid which helps by slipping the transmission until you decide its time to go..when you drive a manual you can just build up the revs and then simply let the clutch go, since you don't have(a clutch pedal) that in auto/sem-auto transmission they have these aids, launch control also ensures you get maximum traction so effectively it makes sure you accelerate as fast as possible, overuse will result in transmission failure though...and its only meant for track use..because, on the street, you will end up looking like a complete maniac
